PRESERVING THE PAST
The Hart Silversmiths Trust was established in 2010 to care for the drawings and designs archive built up over the last 100+ years. The collection comprises approximately 3,000 drawings covering a span of over 100 years, and represents an important part of local and national heritage, as well as a valuable record of silversmithing and the Arts and Crafts movement. The majority of these drawings and designs were created by George Henry Hart, the first generation of the Hart silversmiths in Chipping Campden but also includes drawings by Charles Robert Ashbee, who was an Internationally renowned architect, designer, entrepreneur and prime mover of the Arts and Crafts movement.
The ethos of the Project is encapsulated by ICE: Inspire; Conserve; Educate. The Trust is committed to:
Inspiring those who wish to find their creative spirit through working with metal
Conserving the original drawings and designs as part of the arts and crafts heritage
Establishing an archive for educational purposes to provide information and historical background
